Rain rain go away, bring another sunny day

BEMIDJI, MINNESOTA (March 12, 2012) – It was a beautiful weekend in Bemidji, sunny and warm, with bicyclists and walkers everywhere. I think the bike giveaway at the Perch Derby must have done an excellent job at providing bikes to kids, because kids were zipping around on bikes all over town. It was great to see so many families being active!
I took photos at Paul and Babe, walked along 3rd Street downtown Bemidji, enjoyed a cup of coffee from The Cabin Coffeehouse and Café, and went for a hike along Lake Bemidji. My Saturday was originally intended to be a day on snowshoeing; however, with the warm weather it turned into an awesome hike on the trails instead. Trails along Lake Bemidji were still covered in snow, but after the rainy morning today there is no doubt in my mind that the trails will clear quickly.
This week it is forecast to be in the 50s, with a high of 61 degrees this Friday! We’re getting an early spring and I couldn’t be more excited about the timing of this warmer weather, because May is National Bike Month. In northern Minnesota, the timing of National Bike Month is sometimes a challenge, since here in Bemidji it’s been known to snow sometimes into the spring months.
As you pull your bikes out of the garage to enjoy this warmer weather, consider some of the following activities and programs available for bicyclists here in Bemidji.
• The Bike Guy Ski and Bicycle Shop is creating maps of local bike routes. Stay tuned for more details and how you can get your map!
• Kick-off National Bike Month by going on a bike ride with The Bike Guy Ski and Bicycle Shop on Tuesday, May 1st (weather permitting).
• Bike-to-work week is coming up May 14-18. Grab your lunch and work clothes and join your neighbors by biking to work.
Have a wonderful day and see you on the trails!
